Guest column: Dominion can’t support clean energy and ALEC

LAST MONTH American Electric Power, parent of Appalachian Power, one of Virginia’s two major electric utilities, pulled out of the American Legislative Exchange Council.

The council, better known as ALEC, is a Virginia-based national lobbying group that works to influence state legislators on behalf of big corporations, including some of the country’s largest polluters.

American Electric Power’s pullout begs the question: Why is Dominion Resources, parent of Dominion Virginia Power, still an ALEC member?
